Barney’s Farm is an Amsterdam seed breeder that says it was founded in 1986 and now runs two webshops: an international store at barneysfarm.com and, since 2023, a US store at barneysfarm.com/us that ships from California. It sells feminized, autoflower, F1 hybrid and regular seeds, with classics such as OG Kush next to Cali strains like Lemon Cherry Gelato. Our verdict: a legitimate, long-running breeder with a deep catalog and good US shipping terms, held back by a narrow germination guarantee, no shipping to Canada or Australia and a weak public complaint record on BBB. We score it 6.8/10.
This review is based on Barney’s Farm’s published policies, current prices on its US and international stores, and independent customer feedback. All facts were checked on October 22, 2026.

Buying Barney’s Farm Seeds from the USA
US buyers do not order from the international store. Its shipping page lists the USA, Canada, Australia, China, Malaysia and the rest of Asia as excluded, and points US customers to Barney’s Farm USA at barneysfarm.com/us. According to Barney’s Farm’s About page, the US store launched in 2023. It is operated by The Sun Drops LLC, which the US FAQ describes as a Barney’s Farm subsidiary, with Barneys Farm Inc and The Sun Drops LLC both listed at 18 Hangar Way in Watsonville, California.
The US FAQ sets out the terms. Barney’s Farm aims to process and ship orders within 48 hours, Monday to Friday, from its US distribution center in California. USPS Ground Advantage costs $6 and typically takes 3 to 5 business days; Priority Mail costs $12 and takes 2 to 3 business days. Orders over $50 ship free by Ground Advantage, or for $6 by Priority. Parcels need no signature, and PO boxes are accepted, although Barney’s Farm recommends a home or work address. The store ships only within the 50 states, to the states where Barney’s Farm says it is legal to ship, and not to Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam or American Samoa. Prices are in dollars and include sales tax unless stated otherwise.
Two details are worth knowing before you order. US parcels go out in a padded mailer sent by The Sun Drops LLC, but the seed packs inside are in their original Barney’s Farm branded packaging. And the US store is the only place where Barney’s Farm publishes a germination guarantee (see below). Read the legal note in the shipping section too: a US delivery address does not make growing legal in every state.
Who Barney’s Farm Is
Barney’s Farm’s About page says the company was founded in Amsterdam in 1986 by Derry, who collected landrace genetics in the Himalayas in the 1980s before starting the breeding program. Classics such as G13 Haze, Liberty Haze, Amnesia Lemon, Tangerine Dream, Laughing Buddha, LSD, Critical Kush and Pineapple Chunk come out of that program. On its Cup Winners page, Barney’s Farm claims “over 40 cannabis cups”, including High Times Cannabis Cup wins. That count comes from the company itself.
The international store is run by Barneys Souvenirs BV, Haarlemmerstraat 98, 1013 EW Amsterdam, company registration number 34251957, as stated in its privacy policy. Its terms are governed by Dutch law. The US store is run by The Sun Drops LLC, and its terms are governed by Illinois law.
Ownership has been in the news. In December 2024, Barney’s Farm, Sensi Seeds and the US seed company ILGM (I Love Growing Marijuana) announced a merger agreement, expected to close in early 2025 (MJBizDaily). On September 1, 2025, Barney’s Farm said it was ending the merger with immediate effect, stating that PowerPlant Inc, which it described as the promoter of the merger, had failed to transfer funding by the contracted deadlines. PowerPlant, Sensi Seeds and ILGM had not responded to requests for comment when Business of Cannabis reported it on September 12, 2025. Both stores currently name Barney’s Farm’s own operating companies, Barneys Souvenirs BV and The Sun Drops LLC.
Catalog and Seed Types
The US store advertises “100+ strains” produced in-house, split into feminized seeds, autoflower seeds, F1 hybrids, autoflower F1 hybrids and regular seeds. The international store adds collections such as Cali Weed Strains, High THC, Highest Yield, Washer Strains (for hash and rosin), Cannabis Cup Winners, Amsterdam classics, High CBD and Best Taste & Aroma.
Well-known house strains include LSD, Critical Kush, Pineapple Chunk, Laughing Buddha, Ayahuasca Purple and Liberty Haze. The Cali side includes Gelato, Dos Si Dos 33 (related to Do-Si-Dos), Wedding Cake, Runtz and Black Cherry Gushers. Lemon Cherry Gelato is sold as the second release in a Barney’s Farm x Backpack Boyz collaboration, according to its product page.
Newer lines are the Precision F1 hybrids (for example Frozen Bananas F1, Durban Poison F1, London Pound Cake F1 and MAC 1 F1) and autoflower F1s such as Bubblegum Auto F1. On the US store a regular-seed range covers eight classics: Acapulco Gold, Hindu Kush, Afghan Hash Plant, Master Kush, Skunk #1, Northern Lights, White Widow and G13 Haze. The US store also sells rooted female clones, cut at Barney’s Farm’s California site: $95 per clone, minimum three per order, shipped by UPS Next Day Air for a $50 flat rate.
Barney’s Farm says all seeds are tested, including germination testing, before release, that new strains go to market only after reaching germination rates over 99%, and that every pack carries a lot number. We could not verify these claims independently. If you are still deciding on a seed type, our guide to feminized vs autoflower vs regular seeds explains the trade-offs.
Prices and Pack Sizes
Most strains come in packs from a single seed up to 25 seeds, according to the help center; the product pages we checked offer 1, 3, 5, 10 and 25. These are the prices we saw on October 22, 2026 (sale prices marked; regular price in brackets):
| Strain (store) | 1 seed | 3 seeds | 5 seeds | 10 seeds | 25 seeds |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gelato (US, on sale) | $12 (was $16) | $30, $10.00/seed (was $42) | $44, $8.80/seed (was $59) | $72, $7.20/seed (was $104) | $150, $6.00/seed |
| Critical Kush (US) | $16 | $41, $13.67/seed (was $48) | $59, $11.80/seed | $96, $9.60/seed (was $117) | $200, $8.00/seed |
| Lemon Cherry Gelato (US) | $20 | $51, $17.00/seed | $74, $14.80/seed | $120, $12.00/seed | $250, $10.00/seed |
| Critical Kush (international) | €14 | €37, €12.33/seed | €53, €10.60/seed | 20 seeds for €91 (“Buy 10 Get Double”), €4.55/seed | €196.56, €7.86/seed |
| Gelato (international, on sale) | €11 (was €12) | €29, €9.67/seed (was €31.68) | €40.99, €8.20/seed (was €45) | €72, €7.20/seed (was €78) | Not listed |
At regular prices, single seeds on the US store cost $12 to $20, depending on the strain; on sale, some singles drop to $5 to $10 (US Special Offers, October 22, 2026). Per-seed prices drop sharply in bigger packs: Gelato’s 25-pack works out at $6.00 a seed, while Lemon Cherry Gelato stays at $10.00 a seed even in a 25-pack. F1 hybrids such as Frozen Bananas F1 start at $41 for three seeds ($13.67 a seed). On the international store, regular single-seed prices run from €11 to €18; sale and multi-buy deals can go much lower (Mendo Breath: 6 seeds for €14.50, €2.42 a seed, on October 22, 2026). The “Buy 10 Get Double” offer on some strains (20 seeds for the price of 10) is cheaper per seed than the 25-pack. Prices on both stores change with promotions, so check the product page on the day you order.
Neither store requires an account, and there is no minimum order. On the US store, returns of unopened products in resaleable condition are accepted within 14 days of receipt; in the EU, the standard 14-day right to cancel and return applies.
Shipping by Region
United States. Through the US store only: $6 USPS Ground Advantage (3 to 5 business days), $12 Priority Mail (2 to 3 business days), free Ground Advantage over $50, with dispatch from California that Barney’s Farm aims to complete within 48 hours. Details are in the US section above.
Europe and the UK. The international store ships across the EU and to the UK, and its tracking page lists DPD and APC tracking for UK orders. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout by order value and destination; Barney’s Farm does not publish a rate table or a free-shipping threshold. Its help center describes three services: Ground Standard (5 to 10 business days, PostNL), Ground Express (3 to 6 business days, GLS) and Express (1 to 2 business days, through Prolivered with couriers such as FedEx and UPS), all counted from dispatch. Barney’s Farm aims to ship within 24 hours of purchase, Monday to Friday. For orders outside the EU, including the UK, any import taxes are payable by the recipient.
Canada, Australia and Asia. Not served. The international store excludes Canada, Australia, China, Malaysia and the rest of Asia, and the US store ships only within the 50 states.
Packaging, losses and damage. EU orders go out in plain packaging with no mention of the contents, and the international store only delivers to personal addresses (no PO boxes). Card statements show “Barneys Souvenirs”. If an international order arrives damaged, contact Barney’s Farm within a week with a written description and photos; returns need prior approval. Where available, tracked services include insurance up to the value of the products (not the shipping cost), and Barney’s Farm asks for photographic evidence before crediting 100% of the product value. On the US store, the FAQ gives 14 days to report damaged or missing orders, while the US terms say 7 days; report problems as early as you can. Barney’s Farm states that it cannot advise on the legal status of its products in your country and is not responsible if customs holds an order.
Shipping to the US does not make growing legal everywhere. Seed and cultivation laws differ by state, and the federal hemp definition is changing in stages between November 12 and December 11, 2026 (P.L. 119-37, section 781, as amended by P.L. 119-103), which may affect how cannabis seeds can be sold and shipped (Congressional Research Service summary). Check your state and local rules before you order.
Germination Guarantee: What Barney’s Farm Actually Promises
The US FAQ includes a germination guarantee, but a narrow one. It applies “in cases where none, or an exceptionally high percentage, of seeds fail to germinate”. If only a few seeds in a pack fail, Barney’s Farm says this may be down to growing technique, conditions or experience. No exact percentage is given.
To file a claim, you need to send all of the following: your order number or proof of purchase; the strain names and number of seeds that failed; the lot number from the back of the pack; clear photos of the problem; a short description of how the seeds were stored; and your germination method (medium, temperature, humidity, timeframe). Without all of it, Barney’s Farm says it cannot issue replacements or credits. It promises a reply within five business days. Promotional and free seeds are excluded. Barney’s Farm does not publish a claim deadline.
The international store and its help center publish no germination guarantee. For other problems the US FAQ says Barney’s Farm will “look into it carefully and arrange appropriate compensation” when you supply the information it asks for. In practice: keep the pack with its lot number, photograph every step and write down your method from day one.
Payment Methods
The US store accepts credit and debit cards only: Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. Bank transfer is for wholesale customers only, and no money is taken from your card until the order ships.
The international store accepts credit cards, standard bank transfer and SEPA transfer, according to its help center. Its payment page lists the bank details (account holder Barneys Souvenirs BV, ING). Pay the full order amount, because short payments are rejected, and choose the right destination country: bank payments for orders with a mismatched shipping country are not refunded.
Both stores rule out PayPal. The international help center also lists iDEAL, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna, Afterpay, cash on delivery and cryptocurrency as not accepted. Cheques, postal orders and cash in an envelope are not accepted either.
Deals, Loyalty and Discount Codes
As of October 2026, these are the ways to pay less at Barney’s Farm:
Free seeds (US). The US store adds free seed packs to seed orders over $30. You pick them in the cart before checkout; they cannot be added later, and each promotional pick is one seed.
Newsletter (US). Signing up on the US store gives 15% off your first order.
Sales and multi-buy deals. On October 22, 2026, both stores showed sale prices on many strains. The international Special Offers page advertised up to 40% off selected feminized and autoflower seeds (individual strains were marked down by as much as 53%), plus multi-buy packs such as “Buy 3 Get Double”, “Buy 5 Get 5 Free” and “Buy 10 Get Double”. The US Special Offers page advertised up to 50% off and BOGO deals.
Codes and loyalty. We found no published promo or discount code on either store; Barney’s Farm says it announces offers through its newsletter and social media. Treat codes on third-party coupon sites with caution. There is no loyalty or points program.
Customer Service
Barney’s Farm offers these channels:
- International: help center with a contact form (barneysfarmsupport.zendesk.com), email [email protected], phone +31 20 411 7249
- US: email [email protected], phone +1 831 228 1131 (listed as retail support on the US store)
- Order tracking pages for both stores
Neither store publishes support hours. The international help center is detailed, with around 40 articles on orders, payment, shipping, carriers and returns.
The public complaint record is weaker. The Better Business Bureau profile for “Barneys Farm USA” (file opened March 2024, Manteno, Illinois, alternate name TGR Ventures Corporation) showed an F rating on October 22, 2026. BBB cites five complaints in three years, two of them in the last 12 months, and a failure to respond to three. Two complaints are marked resolved. All five are filed as product issues; topics include seeds that did not sprout, a delayed refund after a misdirected parcel and a slow shipment. The business is not BBB accredited. The company names on the BBB profile differ from those on the current US store, but the profile carries the Barneys Farm USA name.
Reputation
Independent review data on Barney’s Farm as a shop is thin. Besides the BBB profile above, its SmartCustomer (formerly Sitejabber) page had no reviews on October 22, 2026. The US store shows grower testimonials on its homepage; these are selected by Barney’s Farm itself.
As a breeder, Barney’s Farm comes up often in grow forums, with mixed views. In a March 2022 r/microgrowery thread collecting opinions on Barney’s Farm, several growers reported good yields from strains such as Wedding Cake and Dos Si Dos Auto, and one called the genetics “pretty consistent and stable”, while others complained about failed germination and slow customer service, and one said there are now better US breeders. A March 2025 r/microgrowery thread asking whether Barney’s Farm genetics are good shows the same split: some users praise Ayahuasca Purple and White Widow XXL, others prefer smaller breeders. Forum anecdotes are hard to verify, so they play no part in the score.
Website and Ordering
Both stores are easy to shop: clear categories, filters by type and trait, and strain pages with genetics, THC level, height, yield and flowering time. No account is needed, and order tracking is a simple form. Our own guide on how to grow cannabis at home covers the basics if you are just starting.
The weak spot is consistency between the two stores and their policy pages. The international shipping page says it cannot ship “anywhere within” the USA and in the next answer says US customers can buy through Barney’s Farm USA; the damage-report window differs between the US FAQ (14 days) and the US terms (7 days); and the international shipping page promises plain packaging for EU orders only, while the help center says all seeds ship in unbranded packaging. When answers conflict, go by the page for the store you order from.
Who Barney’s Farm Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere
A good fit if you: live in the US and want a breeder’s own store with free USPS shipping over $50 and free seeds over $30; want classic Amsterdam strains, Cali genetics or F1 hybrids from the breeder itself; or live in the EU or UK and like multi-buy deals on established strains.
Look elsewhere if you: live in Canada or Australia (no shipping); want a germination guarantee that also covers a few failed seeds in a pack, or any guarantee on the international store; need PayPal, crypto or Apple Pay; or want a loyalty program.
Scoring Summary
| Category | Score |
|---|---|
| Seed Quality and Germination | 6.5/10 |
| Shipping and Delivery | 7.2/10 |
| Customer Service | 5.8/10 |
| Product Range | 8.0/10 |
| Price and Value | 7.0/10 |
| Website and UX | 6.8/10 |
| Overall | 6.8/10 |
Barney’s Farm scores 6.8/10 overall. Product Range is the strongest category at 8.0/10: more than 100 strains across feminized, autoflower, F1, autoflower F1 and regular seeds, plus Cali collaborations and US clones. Shipping and Delivery earns 7.2/10 for clear US terms (free over $50, 3 to 5 business days, dispatch from California) and published international service levels, held back by no shipping to Canada or Australia and no published international rates. Price and Value lands at 7.0/10: mid-range prices with strong multi-buy deals, free US seeds over $30 and 15% off a first US order, but no loyalty program.
Website and UX scores 6.8/10: both stores are clear and need no account, but the policy pages contradict each other in places. Seed Quality and Germination scores 6.5/10: a long breeding record and published pre-release germination testing, set against a germination guarantee that only covers total or near-total failure and exists only on the US store. Customer Service is the weakest category at 5.8/10: a detailed help center and contact options in both regions, but no published hours and an F rating on BBB driven partly by unanswered complaints.

Final Verdict
Barney’s Farm is a legitimate, long-established breeder, and a practical option for US growers: the US store ships from California by USPS, free over $50, with free seeds on orders over $30. The catalog is one of the deepest from any single breeder, from Amsterdam classics to Cali collaborations and F1 hybrids.
The gaps are concrete. The germination guarantee only covers packs where none or nearly all seeds fail, and only on the US store. There is no shipping to Canada or Australia, no PayPal or crypto, no loyalty program, and the BBB profile shows unanswered complaints. If those are not deal-breakers, Barney’s Farm is a solid place to buy its own genetics. To compare it with the rest of the field, see our seedbank review hub.

What Changed in This Update
Our earlier version of this review said Barney’s Farm had no germination guarantee and did not ship to the US. Both points are out of date: the US store, launched in 2023, ships from California and publishes a germination guarantee. Prices, payment methods, shipping terms and the BBB record were rechecked, and the score was recalculated from 4.5 to 6.8.
