Next Generation Seed Company is a Canadian breeder that has sold its own seeds since 1997. It is best known for Island Sweet Skunk, Purple Romulan and Grapegod, and it sells regular, feminized and autoflower seeds of its own genetics through its webshop, with shipping to the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and Australia. Our verdict: a long-running, breeder-direct source with a published 80% germination guarantee, held back by an old-fashioned checkout (no online card payment), $30 shipping on every US order and key policies that are hard to find on its website. We score it 5.7/10.
This review is based on Next Generation’s published policies, current prices and shipping rates on its webshop, and independent customer feedback. All facts were checked on October 22, 2026.

Buying Next Generation Seeds from the USA
US buyers can order, but the terms differ from most seedbanks that target the American market. The checkout offers one shipping option for US addresses: “Expedited with Tracking” for $30, whatever the order size. There is no cheaper regular-post option and no free-shipping threshold; we tested baskets up to $528. The FAQ quotes 5 to 10 business days for US delivery and says international orders are shipped in a stealth manner.
Prices show in US dollars for US visitors. Paying is less direct than at most shops: credit cards and PayPal are not processed online. You place the order with “Request a Call Back”, and the checkout says someone will contact you within 24 hours to take the payment. The alternatives are Bitcoin, cash or e-transfer (a Canadian bank transfer method). Before ordering, read the legal note in the shipping section below.
Who Next Generation Seed Company Is
According to its About page, Next Generation Seed Company was founded in 1997 in Vancouver, British Columbia. For its first decade it bred regular seeds from British Columbia, Pacific Northwest and Canadian genetics. In 2008 the breeding operation moved to Europe, where it spent nine years in the Netherlands and Spain and started producing feminized and autoflower seeds. In 2017 the main breeding facility returned to Canada, and several older strains have come back since.
The company was inducted into the High Times Seed Bank Hall of Fame. Its homepage says 2008 and its About page 2009; High Times’ own list of Seed Bank Hall of Fame inductees places it in the 2009 class. The About page also cites first places for Island Sweet Skunk at the BC Harvest Cup in 2002 and 2003, features in High Times, Weedworld, Skunk Magazine and Soft Secrets, and grow rooms filmed for Jorge Cervantes’ early High Times videos (a photo is captioned 2005). These are the company’s own claims. Independently, a High Times article from August 2023 on Romulan’s history describes Next Generation (formerly Federation Seeds) as a main supplier of Romulan genetics, from a cutting it received from “Romulan Joe”.
Who runs the company today is less clear. The contact page gives a “Global HQ” address at 20-22 Wenlock Road in London, a Canadian phone number (area code 587, Alberta) and an email address. The About page and news posts are written in the first person by the breeder, and the blog author is listed as “jay”. We found no UK company under the Next Generation Seed name at Companies House, and the site names no legal entity.
Catalog and Seed Types
On October 22, 2026 the shop listed 70 products: about 61 single-strain listings plus collections, breeder packs and a bulk-order listing. Almost everything is the company’s own breeding, which is the main reason to buy here rather than from a multi-brand shop. The signature lines are built around Romulan, Island Sweet Skunk, Grapegod, Avalon, Timewarp and Grapefruit, for example Purple Romulan, Romulan Haze, Romulan Kush, Red Romulan, Grapegod #1 and #2 (limited regular releases), Grapegod x Avalon, BC Blueberry, BC Golden Skunk, Grapefruit Kush, Klondike Gold, Desert Eagle and Chinook. A few well-known names such as Acapulco Gold (sold as feminized; the Christmas Special calls it an IBL), Gelato auto, Gorilla Glue auto and Jack Herer auto round out the list.
Seed types:
- Feminized: the largest group, usually in 5-seed packs
- Regular: mostly 10-seed packs, including several limited releases; useful if you want males for breeding
- Autoflower: nine autos, from Afghani Kush auto to Grapefruit Haze auto (also in a 100-seed pack)
- CBD: Avalon CBD is the only CBD-labeled strain; First Contact is described in the Terpene Collection as 1:1 THC to CBD, though its product page lists 12 to 14% THC and 4 to 5% CBD
Product pages are uneven. Many give flowering times indoors and outdoors, a THC range and some background on the genetics; others are a few lines long. No lab results are published. If you are still choosing between seed types, our guide to feminized vs autoflower vs regular seeds explains the trade-offs.
The company describes its seed production as aimed at quality and shelf life rather than seed count: plants are pollinated a little earlier than usual and grown two to three weeks past normal harvest to help germination viability over the years. That is the breeder’s own description; we could not test it.
Prices and Pack Sizes
Prices are shown in the visitor’s local currency. A 5-pack of Timewarp, for example, cost $44 for a US visitor, CA$55 in Canada, £33 in the UK and €35.75 in Germany on October 22, 2026. These are the US prices we saw that day:
| Product (type) | Pack | Price (US) | Per seed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Island Sweet Skunk (feminized) | 5 seeds | $48.00 | $9.60 |
| Romulan (feminized) | 5 seeds | $52.00 | $10.40 |
| Romulan #7 (regular) | 5 / 10 seeds | $40.00 / $72.00 | $8.00 / $7.20 |
| Grapefruit Haze auto (autoflower) | 5 / 10 / 100 seeds | $36.00 / $56.00 / $336.00 | $7.20 / $5.60 / $3.36 |
| Sativa Collection (5 feminized strains x 5) | 25 seeds | $156.00 | $6.24 |
| Elite Breeders pack (6 feminized strains x 5) | 30 seeds | $148.00 | $4.93 |
Across single packs, feminized 5-packs cost $36 to $56 ($7.20 to $11.20 a seed; the exception is Lillooet Black, a 10-seed feminized pack at $36, or $3.60 a seed), regular 10-packs $56 to $72 ($5.60 to $7.20) and auto 5-packs $36 to $44. Multi-strain packs are cheaper per seed. Where the seed count is stated, they work out at $4.93 to $6.24 a seed: the Sativa Collection and Christmas Special (25 seeds, $156 each), the Elite Breeders pack (30 seeds, $148) and the autoflower Breeders Pack #1 (20 seeds, $116) and #2 (25 seeds, $140). The Indica Collection ($156), Terpene Collection ($116) and Avalon Breeders pack ($396) do not state a seed count. On October 22, 2026 a few strains were on sale, for example Critical Magic at $28 (was $36), Romulan x Timewarp at $36 (was $48), Stinky at $36 (was $44) and Avalon CBD at $32 (was $36).
For US buyers, add the fixed $30 shipping: on a single $44 pack, that raises the real cost per seed from $8.80 to $14.80. The terms say products are sold only to people over 18 and that prices can change without notice.
Shipping by Region
Shipping rates come from the webshop checkout on October 22, 2026; delivery times from the FAQ. The same rate applies whatever the basket size, and none of the regions has a free-shipping threshold.
United States. $30 “Expedited with Tracking” is the only option. Delivery: 5 to 10 business days.
Canada. CA$10 for regular post or CA$25 for expedited with tracking. Delivery: 4 to 7 business days. Within Canada, seeds ship in their original packaging.
United Kingdom. £10 regular post or £25 tracked. Delivery: 5 to 15 business days.
Europe. €10 regular post or €25 tracked (checked for the Netherlands and Germany). Delivery: 5 to 15 business days.
Australia. Orders are priced in Canadian dollars: CA$10 regular post or CA$25 tracked. Delivery: 5 to 15 business days.
Packaging and tracking. International orders ship “in stealth manner in regular mail”. The site contradicts itself on tracking: the FAQ says “we do not track orders at this time, we send all orders in regular mail”, while the checkout sells a tracked option in every region. If tracking matters, choose the tracked rate and confirm with the company. You get emails when the order is placed, when payment is received and when it ships; the FAQ warns that these often land in spam folders. The site does not say which country orders ship from.
Shipping to the US does not make growing legal everywhere. Seed and cultivation laws differ by state, and the federal hemp definition is changing in stages between November 12 and December 11, 2026 (P.L. 119-37, section 781, as amended by P.L. 119-103), which may affect how cannabis seeds can be sold and shipped (Congressional Research Service summary). Check your state and local rules before you order.
The terms add that seeds must only be grown where that is legal, and that in other regions they are sold as souvenirs and collectables.
Germination Guarantee
Next Generation does publish a guarantee, on its FAQ page: “We guarantee 80% germination when seeds are bought directly from us.” The same answer adds that you should not germinate seeds if you are not legally allowed to in your area.
That one sentence is all there is. The site gives no time limit for claims, no required germination method, no proof requirements and no statement on whether failed seeds are replaced or refunded. The “bought directly from us” wording means seeds of its strains bought from other shops are not covered. Before you germinate, keep your order confirmation and take photos, and ask the company by email how it handles a claim.
Payment Methods
The FAQ lists cash, money order, cheque, e-transfer, PayPal and credit card. On October 22, 2026 the checkout offered three options:
- Request a Call Back (credit card and PayPal): for debit and credit cards (Mastercard, Visa and American Express) and PayPal. Someone contacts you within 24 hours to complete payment.
- Direct bank transfer (e-transfer): an e-transfer to an email address shown at checkout; practical mainly for Canadian bank customers.
- Cash or Bitcoin: a Bitcoin address is shown at checkout.
The FAQ also says credit card orders are accepted by phone, and that money orders from outside Canada must be international money orders. There is no instant card checkout, so your order waits until payment is arranged.
Deals, Loyalty and Discount Codes
As of October 2026, there is no loyalty program and no published discount code for Next Generation. We found no codes on the site, so treat coupon sites that list “Next Generation Seeds promo codes” with caution. Ways to pay less:
- Specials: the Specials page lists sale strains and multi-strain packs (see prices above).
- Collections and breeder packs: $4.93 to $6.24 a seed where the pack size is stated, against $7.20 to $11.20 for most single feminized 5-packs.
- Bulk orders: the FAQ and a bulk seeds listing offer discounts on large orders (100 to 10,000 seeds) by request.
Free-seed promotions on the site’s news page (“free seeds with every order”) date from 2018 and 2019, so do not count on them today.
Customer Service
Next Generation lists three channels on its contact page:
- Phone: 1-587-921-7834 (no hours listed)
- Email: [email protected]
- Contact form, with a reply promised within 48 hours
Two limits are worth knowing. The FAQ says plainly: “We do not give growing advice,” and refers growers to books and forums. And card payments depend on a call back within 24 hours. On public complaint handling there is nothing to go on: we found no Better Business Bureau profile, and the company’s SmartCustomer page had no reviews on October 22, 2026.
Reputation
Independent review data on Next Generation as a shop is thin: no BBB profile and zero SmartCustomer reviews (checked October 22, 2026). Its SeedFinder breeder page lists 49 strains and an average user score of 7.31/10 across the eight strains that have reviews. That is a score for strains, not for ordering from the webshop, and SeedFinder has no shop review for it.
On Reddit the company comes up mainly as a breeder, not as a store, and we found no recent threads about deliveries or refunds. Recurring themes in threads we verified:
- Outdoor and mold resistance: an r/cannabiscultivation commenter recommended its genetics for outdoor growing, saying many were bred in humid Vancouver conditions (December 2023). A grower in Southern Ontario was leaning toward Next Generation for mold resistance after reading recommendations on r/microgrowery (January 2025).
- Original breeder, not a white label: in an r/microgrowery thread on how to avoid white-label seeds, one reply named Next Generation and noted it has been active since the late 1990s (April 2024).
- Grow results: growers posted plants from its seeds, such as Island Sweet Skunk and BC Blueberry in a February 2019 r/Highintel post and NY Purple Diesel grown outdoors near Lake Simcoe, Ontario, in a July 2019 r/microgrowery post.
- Consistency questions: an older THCFarmer thread from December 2011 reported that recent Island Sweet Skunk batches did not match the strain of the early 2000s; no company response appears in the thread.
These are individual accounts. They suggest a respected breeder name, but they say little about how the webshop handles orders today.
Website and Usability
The site is simple to browse, with menus for Regular, Feminized, Auto Flowering and Specials. The basics are harder to find: the FAQ, which holds the guarantee, delivery times and payment methods, sits at the address /limited-editions/, and the menu item says “FAQ”. The shipping rates only appear at checkout. Some information conflicts, such as the Hall of Fame year (2008 on the homepage, 2009 on the About page) and tracking (FAQ: none; checkout: tracked option).
Who Next Generation Seed Company Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere
A good fit if you: want Island Sweet Skunk, Romulan, Grapegod or Timewarp lines from the breeder that sells them as its own; grow outdoors in a cool or humid climate and like Canadian genetics bred for it; want regular seeds for breeding; buy in Canada, where shipping starts at CA$10 and e-transfer is easy; or want a bulk order.
Look elsewhere if you: are in the US and want cheap or free shipping on a small order; want to pay by card online in one step; need a germination guarantee with written claim terms; want grow support from the seller; or want a large catalog with many breeders.
Scoring Summary
| Category | Score |
|---|---|
| Seed Quality and Germination | 6.5/10 |
| Shipping and Delivery | 5.5/10 |
| Customer Service | 5.5/10 |
| Product Range | 6.0/10 |
| Price and Value | 4.8/10 |
| Website and UX | 4.6/10 |
| Overall | 5.7/10 |
Next Generation Seed Company scores 5.7/10 overall. Seed Quality and Germination is the strongest category at 6.5/10: almost three decades of breeding its own lines, a published 80% germination guarantee and positive grower posts, minus the lack of claim terms and little independent data on recent batches. Product Range follows at 6.0/10, with about 61 single-strain listings, mostly its own breeding, across regular, feminized and autoflower seeds, but a small catalog with one CBD strain.
Shipping and Customer Service each land at 5.5/10. Shipping reaches the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and Australia with published delivery times and cheap regular post outside the US, but US buyers pay $30 on every order, there is no free-shipping threshold and the tracking information conflicts. Customer service offers phone, email and a 48-hour form, but no growing advice and no public complaint record to judge. Price and Value scores 4.8/10 because most single packs cost $7.20 to $11.20 a seed before shipping, with no loyalty program. Website and UX is the weakest at 4.6/10: no online card checkout, key policies hidden on an oddly named FAQ page, conflicting statements and uneven product pages.

Scores and details come from each seedbank's own review on this site and update when that review is re-checked.
If you want another Canadian shop with a wider choice of brands, compare our Canuk Seeds review and our True North Seed Bank review. US buyers who mainly care about shipping and an easy checkout should read our Crop King Seeds review. For another legacy breeder that sells its own classic genetics, see our Sensi Seeds review.
Final Verdict
Next Generation Seed Company is the place to buy if you want its own Canadian lines from the source: Island Sweet Skunk, the Romulan family, Grapegod and Timewarp, plus limited regular releases you will not find in big shops. It publishes more than many people think, including an 80% germination guarantee, delivery times per region and a full list of payment options.
The buying experience is the weak point. US orders carry $30 shipping regardless of size, card and PayPal payments need a call back, the guarantee has no written claim terms, and key policies are hard to find on the website. For Canadian buyers and breeders who want original genetics, those trade-offs may be acceptable; US beginners will usually find an easier shop. To compare it with the rest of the field, see our seedbank review hub.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Next Generation Seed Company based, and who owns it?
Next Generation was founded in 1997 in Vancouver, Canada, and says its main breeding facility has been back in Canada since 2017. Its contact page lists a “Global HQ” mailing address in London, UK, and a Canadian phone number. The site does not name the company or person that owns it.
Does Next Generation Seed Company ship to the USA?
Yes. US orders ship only by “Expedited with Tracking” for $30, with a quoted delivery time of 5 to 10 business days. Seed and cultivation laws differ by state, so check your local rules before you order.
How long does Next Generation take to deliver?
The FAQ quotes 4 to 7 business days within Canada, 5 to 10 business days to the US and 5 to 15 business days to other countries.
Where does Next Generation ship from?
The site does not say. Its FAQ treats Canada as the home market, with original packaging within Canada and stealth packaging for international orders.
Is Next Generation Seed Company legit?
It is a long-established breeder: active since 1997, with its Romulan genetics covered by High Times in 2023 and its strains discussed by growers on Reddit and SeedFinder. There is little independent data on the webshop itself (no BBB profile, no SmartCustomer reviews), and card payments run through a call back.
Does Next Generation have a germination guarantee?
Yes. The FAQ says it guarantees 80% germination on seeds bought directly from Next Generation. It publishes no claim window, proof requirements or replacement terms, so keep your order details and ask before you germinate.
What payment methods does Next Generation accept?
Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and PayPal through a call-back request, e-transfer, cash and Bitcoin. The FAQ also lists money order and cheque. There is no instant online card payment.
Are there Next Generation Seeds promo or discount codes?
Not as of October 2026: we found no published codes and no loyalty program. Savings come from sale strains on the Specials page, multi-strain collections at about $5 to $6 a seed and bulk discounts on request.
Does Next Generation ship within Canada?
Yes. Canadian orders cost CA$10 by regular post or CA$25 tracked and take 4 to 7 business days. Prices show in Canadian dollars, and e-transfer is accepted.
What Changed in This Update
This version adds the 80% germination guarantee, delivery times and payment methods from the company’s FAQ page, which were missing before. Prices now reflect the US dollar price list and the shipping rates shown at checkout on October 22, 2026, and the overall score stays at 5.7/10, now based on those verified facts. Community claims we could not trace to a source were removed, and the Hall of Fame year is confirmed as 2009 from High Times’ inductee list.
