Serious Seeds Review 2026: AK-47 Breeder, Shipping and Guarantee

Serious Seeds is the Dutch breeder behind AK-47, White Russian, Kali Mist and Bubble Gum, and it sells its own seeds directly through seriousseeds.com. The company is run by its owner and breeder, Simon, from an office in Purmerend, north of Amsterdam, and it keeps a deliberately small catalog of about twenty strains. Our verdict: a legitimate, long-established breeder with a written germination guarantee and worldwide shipping at a low flat rate, held back by premium prices, a small range with stock gaps and an office that only works Monday to Thursday. We score it 6.6/10.

This review is based on Serious Seeds’ published policies, current prices on its webshop and independent customer feedback. All facts were checked on October 22, 2026.

Serious Seeds at a Glance

Buying Serious Seeds from the USA

Serious Seeds has no US warehouse or US storefront. Its shipping FAQ says it ships “worldwide to all countries”, so US orders go out from the Netherlands like every other order, at the same price: €5 for orders of €90 or less and free above €90. Prices are in euros only, so your card issuer converts the amount. The site has advertised that credit and debit cards are accepted in the US, UK and EU, although the terms and conditions only mention cards being accepted within Europe.

Expect international transit times. The FAQ quotes 7 to 14 days in general, but lists the United States among the countries where delivery times differ, and asks customers to wait at least 14 days before asking about an order. If you want a tracking number, choose Registered shipping at checkout; standard mail has no tracking and the delivery risk lies with you.

The company’s shoplist (June 2026) names one US distributor, Attitude Seedbank USA. Serious Seeds advises buying only original, individually numbered packs, because the germination guarantee depends on that pack number. Before you order, read the legal note in the shipping section below.

Who Serious Seeds Is

According to the company’s history page, Simon studied biology in Amsterdam and began collecting cannabis seeds after a trip through Africa in 1986. He taught biology at a high school and then worked at Sensi Seeds at the invitation of Alan Dronkers. In 1994 he started a seed company with two American partners, and that year AK-47 and Chronic won prizes at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. After the partnership ended, Simon founded Serious Seeds as his own company in 1995. That explains why the site says “since 1994” while High Times, in a September 2017 profile, dates the founding to 1995 in Amsterdam. The same profile names Serious Seeds as one of the first entrants in the High Times Seed Bank Hall of Fame in 2007.

The classics came early. Serious Seeds says Simon developed AK-47 in 1992 from Colombian, Mexican, Thai and Afghan lines, a date that independent references such as Wikipedia also give. Kali Mist, grown by Serious, won the 1995 Cannabis Cup for the Greenhouse coffeeshop, and the coffeeshop De Dampkring won the 1996 Overall Cup with White Russian, a cross of AK-47 and the White Widow clone of the 1990s. The company says Bubble Gum was first released in 1994, from genetics developed by growers in Indiana that reached the Netherlands via New England. In 2012 the small breeder Magus Genetics joined Serious Seeds, adding Warlock, Biddy Early, Double Dutch and Motavation; Magus strains such as Exile were not carried over because the mother plants were lost.

Today the company is Serious Seeds BV, with an office at Bisonstraat 106 in Purmerend that is explicitly “not a shop”. We could not find its Chamber of Commerce number on the site. Card statements show the name “Serious-Souvenirs”.

About the awards

Award counts are a big part of the Serious Seeds story, but treat the exact numbers as company claims. Its About page claims 102 awards in total up to May 2021, including 25 from High Times Cannabis Cup judges since 1994. The AK-47 page says “27 Awards total” and calls it the most awarded strain on the market, while a grow report on the same page speaks of sixteen prizes, the figure Wikipedia also cites from a 2020 source. Bubble Gum is listed with 13 prizes in the catalog and “12 Awards total” on its own page. Named wins that the company documents include High Times Strain of the Year 2003 for AK-47 and several Cannabis Cup titles for Kali Mist and White Russian.

Catalog and Seed Types

Serious Seeds explains on its About page why it keeps the menu at about twenty strains: it only releases a strain once it is stable, and it improves existing strains under the same name instead of renaming them. In the catalog we checked (snapshot of June 18, 2026), there were 22 listings: 17 in stock, 3 out of stock (Bubble Gum, Chronic and Serious Kush) and 2 discontinued (Biddy Early and Serious 7). SeedFinder lists 17 Serious Seeds strains.

• Classics: AK-47, Kali Mist (“Queen of Sativas”), White Russian, Bubble Gum, Chronic
• Newer strains: Seriotica (the current flagship, Mimosa x Cookies), Seriosa, Strawberry AK, Serious Happiness, Serious Kush, Kali Bubba, and Fruity Durban, launched in 2026
• Former Magus Genetics strains: Warlock, Double Dutch, Motavation
• Outdoor and mold-resistant: Serious 6
• Autoflowers: Auto AK-47 and Auto White Russian
• CBD strains: CBD-Chronic (1:1 THC:CBD) and CBD-Warlock

Seeds come in transparent, airtight tubes glued to a booklet with an individual serial number: 6 seeds per feminized pack and 11 per regular pack, according to the shipping FAQ (3-seed feminized packs are for wholesale only). Several classics, such as AK-47 and White Russian, are still offered as regular seeds, which matters if you want to make your own crosses. Stock is the weak spot. The product FAQ explains that every harvest is quality-checked before release, which can leave strains out of stock for a while; you can join a waitlist on the product page. Bubble Gum was out of stock in both pack sizes in June 2026, and a grower on r/microgrowery (March 26, 2026) also described it as sold out. Check the product page before you plan around a specific classic.

Prices and Pack Sizes

These are the prices shown on the webshop on October 22, 2026 for the default feminized 6-seed pack:

Across the in-stock catalog, packs run from €50 (Serious 6, the two CBD strains and Auto White Russian) to €100 (Seriotica), with most strains at €70 or €80. Kali Mist, Seriosa and Strawberry AK cost €80; Kali Bubba, Serious Happiness and Warlock €70; Fruity Durban €60 (June 2026 catalog, homepage prices rechecked October 22, 2026). AK-47 and White Russian are also sold as 11-seed regular packs; the price appears once you select that option, and we could not read it from the product page.

If 6 seeds of one strain is more than you need, Pick & Mix lets you combine 2 or 3 strains in one pack, each in its own labeled tube. In June 2026 it cost a €10 base price plus a price per strain, for example €40 for three AK-47 feminized seeds, €50 for three Seriotica and €25 for three Serious 6. Overall this is premium pricing: you pay for original breeder genetics, not for volume.

Shipping by Region

Serious Seeds uses one set of shipping rules for every destination, set out in its shipping FAQ:

• Standard (seeds in the original packaging): €5 for orders of €90 or less, free above €90
• Safe (seeds repackaged and sent discreetly): same price, €5 or free above €90
• Registered and Safe & Registered: price depends on country and weight; sent as a registered letter or parcel via PostNL with a tracking number, usually signed for on delivery

Plain mail has no tracking, and the FAQ states that the delivery risk then lies with the customer; Serious Seeds can only give information on registered shipments. The banner on the site says “Free delivery for 90€+ Orders”, while the FAQ table says free “above €90”, so an order of exactly €90 may still be charged €5.

United States and Canada. Both are covered by the worldwide shipping policy. Delivery can take longer than the general 7 to 14 days. Customs and import duties are the buyer’s responsibility, and the terms and conditions state that the company is not responsible if a parcel is held or seized.

United Kingdom. Same rates and options. The terms point out that growing cannabis without a licence is an offence under the UK Misuse of Drugs Act 1971; seeds are sold as souvenirs.

EU. Same rates, with the shortest transit times from the Netherlands.

Australia. Covered by the worldwide policy, listed among the countries with different delivery times.

Processing. Orders ship only after payment has been received, per the terms and conditions, and the office works Monday to Thursday, so a payment made late in the week may not be processed until the following Monday. The company also takes breaks: in 2026 the last orders before the summer break had to be in by June 18, with the office back on July 6.

Shipping to the US does not make growing legal everywhere. Seed and cultivation laws differ by state, and the federal hemp definition is changing in stages between November 12 and December 11, 2026 (P.L. 119-37, section 781, as amended by P.L. 119-103), which may affect how cannabis seeds can be sold and shipped (Congressional Research Service summary). Check your state and local rules before you order.

Germination Guarantee: The Exact Terms

Serious Seeds puts its germination guarantee in writing; its product FAQ even calls it “the only seed company in the world” to guarantee germination, a claim we cannot verify. The About page promises a new free package of the strain you bought if quality problems occur, and the shipping FAQ says it issues “a free replacement for seeds that do not germinate”. The conditions, from the product FAQ, shipping FAQ and the replacement form:

• You must use the Serious Seeds germination method, so the method can be ruled out as the cause.
• You must try all seeds in the pack first. Trying 2 of 6 seeds is not enough for a claim.
• You must keep the original pack and give its serial number, which Serious Seeds verifies before it issues a replacement.
• For Pick & Mix packs, keep the numbered card; replacements are only sent if more than one seed has a problem, never for a single seed.
• The germination support form asks where you bought the seeds and accepts up to 10 photos.
• The guarantee covers germination, not the growing results after germination.

No deadline is published for germination claims, but the terms require you to report defective, damaged or incorrect orders within 7 days of receipt. Because the form asks where you bought the seeds, the guarantee also appears to apply to genuine packs bought from a shop. Keep the packaging and photograph your germination attempt.

On quality, the About page says every batch is tested for germination rate and uniformity before release, and that independent lab tests have shown THC levels averaging 18 to 22% for its strains. The Seriotica page carries a lab report dated April 19, 2024. We could not verify the batch testing independently. Payment Methods

The payment FAQ lists three methods:

• Credit and debit cards: Mastercard and Visa, 3D Secure. Card orders are processed within one or two business days. Statements show “Serious-Souvenirs”, with no reference to cannabis.
• Bank transfer: to the company’s Dutch account, with your order number as the reference.
• Cash in an envelope: euros or US dollars (contact them first for other currencies), sent registered, at your own risk. Reply to the order email first for the address; do not send cash to the address on the website.

If none of these works for you, the FAQ asks you to email for other options. We found no PayPal or cryptocurrency option on the payment page. All orders must be paid in full before they ship.

Deals, Loyalty and Discount Codes

As of October 2026, these are the ways to pay less at Serious Seeds:

Free seeds. Orders of €60 and above get free seeds, per the site banner and the order FAQ.

Volume discounts. 10% off the whole order from €500 and 20% off from €1,000, calculated automatically at checkout.

Free shipping. Standard or Safe shipping is free above €90 to any country.

Newsletter. The free “Serious Club” newsletter promises exclusive promos, exclusive discounts and news about new strains.

Codes and loyalty. We found no published discount code and no points-based loyalty program on the site. Be careful with coupon sites that claim to have Serious Seeds codes.

Customer Service

The contact page lists these channels:

A four-day office week is narrow, especially for buyers in North America, and it can delay order processing. One inconsistency: the terms and conditions (July 2023) still list phone hours from Monday to Friday and say cards are accepted “within Europe”, while the contact page says Monday to Thursday and the site banner says US, UK and EU. Go by the contact page for hours, and check the payment options at checkout. On public complaint handling there is little to go on: we found no Better Business Bureau profile, and the SmartCustomer page for seriousseeds.com had no reviews on October 22, 2026.

Reputation

Independent review platforms say little about Serious Seeds as a shop: SmartCustomer has an unclaimed profile with zero reviews, and we found no BBB profile (both checked October 22, 2026). SeedFinder rates strains rather than the shop; on its Serious Seeds breeder page, 13 of the 17 listed strains have user reviews, with an average of 7.7/10. On its own site, Seriotica shows 5.00 out of 5 from 32 ratings; that is an on-site score collected by Serious Seeds, so give it less weight.

On Reddit, opinion about the genetics is mostly positive with some dissent. Dated threads we checked:

• r/microgrowery, October 16, 2024: several users recommend Serious Seeds (“has never let me down”), while another argues that classic European breeders such as Serious and Sensi no longer match newer American breeders.
• r/microgrowery, June 4, 2024: one grower praises the consistency of AK-47 and Serious Kush; one user says Serious Seeds told them it did not know when a new harvest of the sold-out Serious 7 would be ready.

Forum anecdotes about individual orders are hard to verify, so they inform this section but do not decide the score.

Website and Grow Information

The webshop is clean and focused. You can filter strains by Autoflowering, Award winning, CBD, Colorful plants, Compact, Easy to grow, Perfect for extractions, Perfect for outdoor, Mostly Indica and Mostly Sativa. Strain pages list vegetative and flowering time, indoor yield, outdoor harvest date, THC and CBD level, history and grow reports. The site is available in English, French and German. The weak point is consistency. Award counts differ between pages, the About page mentions both twenty and eighteen strains, the free-shipping threshold is “90€+” in the banner and “above €90” in the FAQ, and the terms list different office hours and card rules than the rest of the site. Several pages, including the full catalog, were also slow or blocked by bot protection when we checked.

Who Serious Seeds Suits, and Who Should Look Elsewhere

A good fit if you: want the original AK-47, White Russian, Kali Mist or Bubble Gum from the breeder itself; value regular seeds for breeding; want a written germination guarantee; live anywhere in the world and are happy with €5 shipping or free shipping above €90; or want to try several strains through Pick & Mix.

Look elsewhere if you: want a large catalog of new hype strains; are on a tight budget (most packs cost €70 to €100); need fast domestic US shipping with tracking included; want PayPal or crypto; or want a points-based loyalty program.

Scoring Summary

Serious Seeds scores 6.6/10 overall. Seed Quality and Germination is the strongest category at 7.5/10: three decades of documented breeding, original classics, numbered packs and a written germination guarantee with clear (if strict) conditions. Shipping and Delivery follows at 7.0/10 thanks to worldwide delivery, a €5 flat rate, free shipping above €90 and a discreet packing option at no extra cost, held back by untracked standard mail and 7 to 14 day delivery from the Netherlands.

Customer Service, Product Range, Price and Value and Website and UX each land at 6.0/10. Support has email, phone and a dedicated germination form, but the office only works Monday to Thursday and there is no public complaint record to judge. The range is small by design, with three strains out of stock in June 2026. Prices of €11.67 to €16.67 per feminized seed are premium, partly offset by free seeds from €60 and volume discounts. The website is clear and informative, but inconsistent award counts and terms that conflict with the contact page cost it points.

Serious Seeds is a legitimate, long-running Dutch breeder and the place to buy the original AK-47, White Russian and Kali Mist. Its webshop is more buyer-friendly than its small size suggests: it ships worldwide for €5 (free above €90), offers discreet packing at no extra cost, sells regular as well as feminized seeds and backs every numbered pack with a written germination guarantee.

The trade-offs are clear. Prices are premium, the catalog is small and classics like Bubble Gum can be out of stock for months, standard mail is untracked, and the office only works Monday to Thursday.
