Amnesia Purple can get somewhat tall for an Indica-heavy strain. When grown indoors, it usually tops out at about 100 cm (40 inches), but outside, it can stretch up to 180 cm (6 feet). In either setting, the plant exhibits a quintessential hybrid structure. It has a dominant cola at its peak and thick lateral branches, giving it a stout Indica-like appearance. The foliage is not especially dense, though, given its thin, Sativa-ish fan leaves and mid-sized internodal gaps. The bud clusters, on the other hand, are close-packed and heavy with pebbly, dark green blooms.
This strain does very well outdoors in all sorts of environments. It has strong resistance to common pests and pathogens, and it could even thrive in less-than-perfect weather. Still, it is more productive in a balmy, Mediterranean climate, where one plant can generate an impressive yield of 500 grams (18 ounces) in mid to late October. Cold nighttime temperatures will trigger the anthocyanins (pigments) in the leaves and buds, resulting in vibrant splashes of purple and blue. The bright hues serve as an enchanting contrast to the muted orange pistils and silvery trichome coating all over the plant.
The lovely coloration can also be achieved indoors by manipulating the grow room temperature, but that is best left to the experts. Excessive cold might stunt the plant’s growth, making it more challenging to reach the optimal harvest of 500 grams (18 ounces) per square meter. Ideally, the temperature should be maintained between 21 to 27 degrees Celsius (70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit). At the same time, the RH (relative humidity) level must not exceed 40 to 50%, especially during the 8 to 10-week flowering period.
It is also advised to grow this strain using the Sea of Green (SoG) method to boost the yield. Cramming 7 to 9 plants in a one square meter area maximizes the use of the available space. In addition, it saves water, electricity, and nutrient costs by making the growing operation more efficient. Utilizing 600-watt HID lights (either LED or HPS) will encourage the plants to grow more vigorously and transition to the budding stage sooner. These types of grow lights may be more expensive at the outset, but only one or two lamps are required for an SoG setup.
